AIEQ welcomes Hydro-Québec's ambitious energy efficiency strategy
MONTREAL, April 24, 2025 - The Association de l'industrie électrique du Québec (AIEQ) warmly welcomes Hydro-Québec's announcement of its new energy efficiency trajectory of $10 billion by 2035 - the most ambitious in its history. This initiative positions Quebec at the forefront of an efficient, equitable and sustainable energy transition.
In a context where every kilowatt counts, this approach reflects a concrete desire to maximize the resources already available while reducing emissions, supporting industrial competitiveness and improving the purchasing power of Quebec households.
"This initiative is perfectly in line with the energy triangle we advocate: security of supply, economic competitiveness and environmental sustainability. By promoting energy efficiency - the cleanest and least expensive source of energy - Hydro-Québec is making a strong gesture towards energy efficiency, while stimulating innovation in our energy ecosystem," said Alain Sayegh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AIEQ.
With concrete measures affecting households, businesses and institutions alike, this trajectory will support infrastructure modernization, strengthen local skills and create over 5,000 jobs in every region of Quebec.
"The AIEQ applauds Hydro-Québec's ambitious vision, which makes energy efficiency a national priority. By mobilizing the entire value chain in the electricity sector, this strategy not only increases our energy autonomy, but also anchors the energy transition in innovation, rigor and collaboration - values we fully share," added Marie Lapointe, President and CEO of AIEQ.
The AIEQ invites all its members and partners to seize this opportunity to accelerate the adoption of efficient technologies, strengthen talent training, and together build a smarter energy Quebec, by facilitating links between service providers and Quebec customers.
