AIEQ welcomes Hydro-Québec's ambition to integrate 3,000 MW of solar power by 2025 and the first call for interest for 300 MW.

MONTREAL, May 6, 2025 - The Association de l'industrie électrique du Québec (AIEQ) welcomes Hydro-Québec's announcement to develop 3,000 MW of solar power capacity by 2035. This structured, scalable initiative represents a major milestone towards a more diversified, resilient energy mix aligned with Quebec's principles of energy autonomy and sustainable development. The integration of solar power as a complementary source to hydroelectricity, wind power and energy efficiency paves the way for new economic spin-offs, greater grid resilience and increased participation by host communities, including First Nations and Inuit.

The AIEQ also welcomes the launch of the first call for tenders for 300 MW of grid-connected solar farms, as well as the measures announced to encourage self-generation and access to solar energy for households and businesses.

The AIEQ will continue to support its members and partners in the development of this promising sector, and to actively contribute to achieving Quebec's energy ambitions.

"We welcome this clear commitment to making the most of all our resources. Diversifying our energy mix is essential to strengthening our collective resilience and seizing economic opportunities throughout Quebec," said Alain Sayegh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AIEQ.
